Examples of my HTML, CSS, AND JS

For the online Survey:

Coding

I've started work on coding an online survey.

My first idea was to have someone draw a background and some icons (I have very limited drawing skills) and then I would code the negative icons to disappear when clicked. The code would record which negative icons were clicked in what order. Next the positive items that people wanted ( in ranked order) could be dropped into place.

This worked and I had it coded and working in a couple of days:

However, the drawing was terrible and all the artists were busy with their own questions so I changed my idea and used photography. I went out originally to find positive objects that I could use to be dragged and dropped but I couldn't find any. I instead found all of the negative icons I was looking for and more.

This was the result:

I then played around with code and the different options I had. In the end I went with a simple mouseover image change and ranking system. I think this works better because it doesn't detract from the images which are pretty striking.

Here it is:

All that was left to do was programme the survey to record the information which it did using an array:

Andy took over the second part of the question which asked what people wanted in the area.

Social Media

I've been asked to lead the Social Media for the launch of the Online Survey, the Art Installation, and the Community Dashboard.

My first focus was the renaming of the whole project as 'community dashboard' isn't an accessible term for someone outside of the organisation. I asked the whole group to brainstorm together and we came up with a number of options:

Umbrella Name for Project:
- Data patchwork - bringing our information to life.
- Community patchwork - Strengthening the fabric of our community through shared information.
- Inter-Activism! Using information to empower communities.

Tag lines:
- Data + Art = Knowledge  & Empowerment.
- Share your stories (so we can build a better tomorrow together.) (so that we can begin to make positive changes to our community together.) Understand yourself and our community better.
- Share your story: inspire change.

Following this I began thinking about how to attract people and followers. Here is my social media to do list:

I think the best way to pique people's interest in this digital age is with a feel good sneak peak video which has the potential to go viral. What we are doing is something really different and out of the ordinary which satisfies two news values: Unusual curiosities and novelties! I really think we have the potential to attract regional news and local news outlets.
